The background

As anyone who has gone through the process will know from start to finish choosing and installing an irrigation system can be a lengthy one. It can be complicated, fraught with issues and disruptive to the course and its members, but it doesn’t have to be.

Ramsdale Park in Calverton, Nottingham streamlined the process with the help of Toro UK distributor Reesink Turfcare and installer North Staffs Irrigation.

The brief

Ramsdale Golf Centre was experiencing difficulties with two outdated irrigation systems across its two 18-hole courses. With old PVC pipework and poor pressure, the system was prone to leaking and generally took a lot of time to maintain and keep in reasonable condition to irrigate the courses correctly. 

In need of an upgrade choosing Toro was a natural decision for course manager John Evans, given the club’s status as a preferred supplier within the Burhill Group, to which Ramsdale Park belongs.

The results

The installation process, which took two years and was conducted in two phases to minimise disruption, was “as smooth as it could have been”. And it wasn’t just the installation process that was a job made easy thanks to Toro UK distributor Reesink Turfcare and installer North Staffs Irrigation, but John’s job was made that much easier too.

In its first full season of operation the club achieved a 40 percent reduction in water usage.

The conclusion

The Toro Lynx control system proved transformative in the club’s daily operations. The system’s remote accessibility, via a mobile app or computer, meant John could adjust watering schedules in real-time, based on weather forecasts, responding to changing conditions with literally the press of a few buttons from home if need be.
