Millets Farm
The equipment
x2 Fractional aerators
The background
Millets Farm Fly Fishing Club, boasting two mature lakes spanning approximately four acres, places the utmost importance on water quality to sustain its diverse aquatic life and ensure the well-being of its fish population. With the recommendation of Head Squared Aquatics chief executive Giles Head, the club turned to Otterbine for effective aeration solution.
The brief
In the lakes at Millets Farm, there’s a high level of anaerobic digestion, whereby bacteria breaks down organic and biological waste into carbon dioxide, ammonia and methane, severely reducing the levels of dissolved oxygen in the water.
In addition, the lakes were suffering from thermal stratification, meaning the temperature of the water body fluctuates wildly at different depths in the lake which trout in particular are very sensitive to.
It was vital for Millets Farm to find a way to maintain high levels of dissolved oxygen to ensure the waters stay healthy, an even temperature throughout and suitable for aquatic life.
The results
The club’s old aerators were only resulting in dissolved oxygen levels of between four and six percent. With the Otterbine Fractional aerators in place, the lakes were up to saturation point within a week, getting the full amount of oxygen possible.
The conclusion
With Millets Farm “thrilled” with the results the Otterbine aerators have brought to the larger of two lakes, it has formed the perfect case study and recommendation for the same treatment to be made to the other lake to ensure water quality is the best it can be across all the lakes.
I recommend Otterbine systems, because I’ve seen that for every pound spent on an aerator, you’ll get twice as much dissolved oxygen in the water from an Otterbine than anything else. Plus, the customer service from Otterbine and Reesink is second to none.
