The background 

Blackpool North Shore Golf Club embarked on a renovation journey to address its outdated irrigation system. The existing central control system, which was 13 years old and unsupported by the manufacturer, posed operational challenges, requiring the team to hand-water and return to the course out of hours and late at night to apply water. The situation proved to be an unsustainable situation, even before the shortfallings of the system were highlighted during a period of drought.

The brief

Course manager Andy Moore recognised the urgent need for a modernised irrigation solution to ensure efficient water management and course maintenance. The project aimed to replace the existing central control system with a technologically advanced solution that could integrate seamlessly with existing sprinklers and improve operations. 

The Toro Lynx central control system was selected for its technological and comprehensive demonstration provided by Reesink.

The results

Installation was completed by Rob Green by Green Irrigation in just a couple of days, to deliver Blackpool North Shore a system more than capable of working with any sprinkler or weather station, no matter its age or brand.

With precise control over its water application, the course achieved a level of accuracy and consistency it hadn’t seen in many years. Now Andy and his team could manage watering operations with millimetre precision via the convenient mobile app.

The conclusion

The new irrigation control system has proven that one simple change, done in a couple of days, can make all the difference. Subsequently, the club went on to replace all its sprinklers with Toro too.
